Fresh Waste Treatment Facility

Overview

A Fresh Waste Treatment Facility is designed to handle daily municipal solid waste (MSW) collected from cities and towns. Unlike legacy waste, fresh waste is processed immediately after collection to recover recyclables, RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel), and compostable fractions. This ensures minimal landfill use, cleaner surroundings, and compliance with Solid Waste Management Rules.

Process Flow

  • Waste Reception & Feeding
    • Mixed municipal waste is received at the facility.
    • Loaded onto conveyors for uniform feeding into processing units.
  • Primary Screening (Trommel Screen / Rotary Screen)
    • Separates fresh waste into fine organic fraction and oversized fraction.
    • Fines contain food waste, soil, and compostable materials.
    • Oversized contains plastics, textiles, wood, metals, and inerts.
  • Composting / Biological Stabilization
    • Fine organic fraction is treated biologically (aerobic composting, windrow, or bio-methanation).
    • Stabilized compost can be used for agriculture, landscaping, or soil conditioning.
  • Air Density Separation (ADS / Wind Sifter)
    • Oversized fraction passes through ADS to separate light combustibles (RDF fluff) from heavier inerts.
  • Magnetic & Eddy Current Separation
    • Recovery of ferrous metals (iron, steel) and non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper) for recycling.
  • RDF Recovery & Baling
    • Light combustible fraction (plastics, paper, packaging material) is converted into RDF fluff or compacted into RDF bales for cement plants and industries.
  • Residual Disposal
    • Minimal inert fraction (stones, glass, C&D waste) is sent to landfill.
